St. Louis Nets Prestigious Players for Peace Goodwill Game
What: A NEWS CONFERENCE has been scheduled for 8:30 A.M. WEDNESDAY , FEBRUARY 24 to announce that St. Louis will host the first Players for Peace Goodwill Game ( "The Rest of the World" vs. South America ) in the United States . The game will be held at The Edward Jones Dome. It will be the first of at least three matches held annually in St. Louis . Proceeds from the game will be used to implement sports and education programs in Haiti and in the St. Louis community.
Players for Peace Packs Powerful Lineup
Coached by Eric Wynalda ("The Rest of the World") and Carlos Alberto Torres (South America), the Players for Peace Goodwill Game will feature some of the best players from North, Central and South America as well as the Caribbean .
Humanitarian Contributions Recognized
On the eve of the Goodwill Game (August 6), the City of St. Louis will host the first United Nations Players for Peace Goodwill Awards. The event will showcase outstanding humanitarian contributions by professional athletes around the globe. At the Goodwill Awards, Pele will receive a Lifetime Award while Ronaldinho will pass over the Goodwill Ambassador to Lionel Messi. In addition, members of the 1970 World Cup Winning Brazil Team will be honored.
About Players for Peace
The Players for Peace were established to assist the United Nations Sport for Development and Peace Program to help bring awareness and support for the United Nations General Assembly's Resolution on "Building a Peaceful and Better World through Sport and the Olympic ideal."
