WICHITA, Kan. – Club Atletico Saint Louis (1-4-2) lost, 5-0, to FC Wichita (2-1-5) on Sunday evening at Stryker Sports Complex. Wichita now sits in second place in the Heartland Conference with 11 points.

From the beginning, Wichita controlled the match. They first found the back of the net in the 17th minute, as Thomas Wells scored when CASTL goalkeeper Ty Frederking was caught out of the net.

The Bluebirds had their chances offensively early in the game but were unable to score, as the season’s offensive struggles continued.

In the 30th minute of the game, Nelson Landaverde converted on a PK to give Wichita to 2-0 lead. The PK was awarded after a Bluebird was called for a handball inside the box.

With the 2-0 lead, Wichita did not look back and kept the pressure on. Landaverde scored his second goal of the game just before the end of the first half, giving Wichita a convincing 3-0 lead.

Things didn’t change in the second half, as Wichita connected on two more goals in the 65th and 85th minute, scored by Wells and Lucas Cordeiro respectively.

The loss marks CASTL’s fourth loss of the season, and with only three games remaining in the regular season, the Bluebirds will need to gain some points in order to qualify for the playoffs, as they are now in sixth place in the conference.

The top four teams in the conference qualify for the playoffs and CASTL is currently five points behind Little Rock and Demize, who both have 10 points each.

With their next match against Demize on Wednesday, June 26, the Bluebirds have a good opportunity to gain three points and come closer to a playoff berth. With a loss, the road toward the playoffs becomes much more difficult.
